Stephen A. Smith is fired up about Kevin Garnett’s recent comments where he dissed modern NBA players.
Garnett’s comments came after the Wolves legend reacted to Anthony Edwards saying that MJ was the only skilled NBA player of the 90s.
KG boldly said, “I don’t think anybody in this generation could’ve played 20 years ago.”
Smith was of the people to react strongly to Garnett’s comments and explained that a player of his stature shouldn’t diss a whole generation just to get back at Edwards.
“Let me tell you what pissed me off,” Smith said on The Stephen. A Smith Show. “I shouldn’t say pissed off but I kinda felt a little pissed off at KG for this one thing. You ain’t got to qualify how much love you got for the young brother and y’all podcast, ain’t here to hurt nobody. Bro, you a Hall of Famer and champion… Say what you want to say as long as you ain’t attacking but you can attack what they said.
“…Because I believe [Curry] is the best shooter God ever created, I think he would’ve adjusted [to the traditional physicality of the game],” SAS said. “You can’t tell me that a LeBron at 6’9″ 260 [pounds] couldn’t deal with the physicality of the old days because he would’ve been hurting people. … Russell Westbrook would have been off the chain…Kevin Durant any era, he’s 6’11” with a handle and a J. Steph Curry could’ve played in the old days because you just don’t teach shooting ability like that. … LeBron James? Any era.”
No doubt the debate between old vs. new players is far from over.
It seems like an old head is piping up about the good old days every second week now.
