Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving has requested a trade out of Brooklyn.
With the 30-year-old preferring to move on ahead of the February 9 trade deadline or leave via free agency this summer, according to The Athletic.
The organization recently offered Irving a contract extension which was apparently not well received by the Irving camp and there were also “principle differences that have emerged between the Nets and Irving,” Shams Charania wrote.
Irving has been instrumental in getting the Nets to fourth seed in the East without Kevin Durant, who is out injured, and he is also the highest fourth quarter point scorer in the league right now.
It hasn’t been the easiest of times for the Nets with Irving recently as last season he refused to get vaccinated and this season he was suspended due to his promotion of an antisemitic film on social media.
The team also sensationally fired head coach Steve Nash at the start of the season.
