Stephen Curry has consistently made it clear he wants to spend his entire career with the Golden State Warriors, but one NBA reporter believes the Boston Celtics could emerge as a surprising trade destination if that ever changes.
Sports Illustrated Celtics reporter John Karalis recently outlined a blockbuster scenario that would send Curry to Boston, arguing the Celtics have the assets to put together a package that could interest Golden State if the franchise ever decided to move on from its longtime superstar.
“My trade package is going to be George, the picks acquired from Philadelphia, and Sam Hauser for Curry,” Karalis wrote.
The proposal would see Boston send Paul George, sharpshooter Sam Hauser and the draft capital it acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Warriors in exchange for the two-time MVP. Those picks include first-round selections in 2028 and 2031, along with second-round picks in 2028 and 2030.
Karalis was also careful to point out that he does not expect Curry to be dealt during the upcoming season. However, he believes Boston’s front office would already be exploring the possibility behind the scenes if there were even the slightest chance the future Hall of Famer became available.
“There’s no doubt Brad Stevens has already been on the phone with the Warriors brass to pitch a deal [for Curry],” Karalis wrote. “Boston has a path to making a decent deal for both sides.”
The Celtics have endured a difficult offseason after missing out on Giannis Antetokounmpo and moving Jaylen Brown in a deal that brought Paul George to Boston. That has fueled speculation that president of basketball operations Brad Stevens could still be searching for another franchise-altering move.
For now, though, any trade involving Curry remains purely hypothetical. The four-time NBA champion has repeatedly expressed his desire to finish his career with the Warriors, although the NBA has shown time and again that circumstances can change quickly if a team can no longer compete at the highest level.
