Stephen Curry Injury Scare Sparks Concern

Curry (44)

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry gave fans a scare on Sunday night after suffering a right ankle injury during the team’s open practice in San Francisco.

The 38-year-old was forced to leave the court and head to the locker room after an awkward misstep, but Warriors head coach Steve Kerr quickly played down concerns about the injury, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.

“He’s fine,” Kerr said.

The incident occurred while Curry was matched up against reserve guard De’Anthony Melton on the wing.

After slipping and appearing to tweak his ankle, Curry immediately showed his frustration by slamming the basketball against the floor.

Practice was stopped as teammates gathered around the two-time MVP, with several members of the Warriors’ staff heading down the tunnel to check on him.

Kerr was among those who went to assess Curry’s condition before returning to deliver a reassuring update.

Despite the initial concern, the injury is not believed to be serious, with a team source reiterating that Curry’s ankle issue was “not serious,” according to ESPN.

The timing is far from ideal for Golden State, which is preparing to begin its 2026-27 campaign against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.

Curry’s health has been a major focus for the Warriors following an injury-plagued 2025-26 season that saw him miss 43 games.

Of those absences, 27 came as a result of persistent pain and swelling in his right knee, which forced Golden State to take a more cautious approach to his preparation for the new season.

The Warriors have deliberately reduced Curry’s workload throughout training camp and the preseason, limiting his practice involvement and minutes as the veteran prepares for another demanding NBA campaign.

With Curry set to turn 39 in March, managing his health has become increasingly important for a Golden State team looking to remain competitive in the Western Conference.

There has been no official confirmation regarding Curry’s availability for Wednesday’s opener against the Lakers.

However, Kerr’s comments and the team’s initial assessment suggest the Warriors may have avoided a significant setback just days before the new season gets underway.
