Jaylen Brown is heading into his first season in Philadelphia and is preparing for a fresh start alongside LeBron James, Tyrese Maxey and the rest of the Sixers following his blockbuster move from Boston on July 1.
And he isn’t hiding the mentality he’s bringing with him.
“My mentality is kill … I feel like I want blood this year,” Brown said during a livestream on his FCHWPO Twitch channel. “I feel like that’s the mentality, I want blood.”
Brown has already spent considerable time working with his new teammates this offseason, including a workout alongside Maxey and James that was shared by NBA trainer Chris Johnson on Instagram.
“It’s been a great summer,” Brown said. “We’ve been working, don’t let it fool you, don’t let nothing fool you, we’ve been in the gym, we’ve been working. I know y’all seen some of the workouts and stuff like that.”
Brown said the work hasn’t been limited to Philadelphia’s established stars, with the five-time All-Star making an effort to build chemistry throughout the roster.
“Been working with the young guys,” Brown said. “Labaron [Philon Jr.], VJ [Edgecombe]. Dogs. Even [Dominick] Barlow, [Adem] Bona, Anfernee [Simons]. I worked out with everyone on the team constantly.
“I’m grateful to the city of Philadelphia already and I ain’t even been there for that long. I’m grateful that they’ve just been a warm embrace.”
JB also had plenty of praise for two of Philadelphia’s biggest names.
“We’ve been working, building chemistry with the guys,” Brown said. “Maxey is a dawg, LeBron is the f****** — don’t even need to say what LeBron is, he looks good, healthy.”
The move closes a hugely successful chapter for Brown in Boston, where he became an NBA champion, Finals MVP and five-time All-Star.
Brown recently held the 741 Frequency Fest as a free farewell event for Celtics fans, but his attention has now shifted toward Philadelphia.
And with his first Sixers season approaching, Brown has made it clear he plans on entering it with an edge.
