Jaylen Brown Breaks Silence on Jayson Tatum Relationship

Jaylen Brown and his move from the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers has brought plenty of questions about what happened behind the scenes, particularly regarding his relationship with longtime teammate Jayson Tatum.

Brown admitted the partnership wasn’t always perfect but insisted there is still plenty of respect between the two former Celtics stars after everything they accomplished together.

“We won a championship together. Anybody that you win a championship with, you would think that’s what a brotherhood or a lifelong legacy would entail,” Brown said. “Obviously, there are ups and downs in any relationship, for sure. But on my end, it’s nothing but respect. Besides when he plays the Sixers, I hope he does well. But other than that, everything for me is just based on respect.”

Brown’s comments come after a dramatic offseason that saw Boston trade the four-time All-Star to one of its biggest rivals.

The move ended Brown’s 10-year run with the Celtics, where he developed alongside Tatum into one of the NBA’s premier duos and helped deliver the franchise’s 2024 championship.

Despite the difficult departure, Brown has made it clear his focus has shifted toward Philadelphia and the opportunity ahead. The Sixers’ championship aspirations received another major boost when LeBron James chose to sign with the franchise in free agency.

Brown admitted the chance to play alongside James was something he immediately embraced.

“We got Bron,” Brown said. “What an opportunity that is. Obviously, everybody’s going to say whatever they’re going to say, and there’s going to be a bunch of media this whole entire season. What an opportunity it is to learn. One of my favorite things to do is to learn despite what people may say, despite what people may feel about. My favorite thing to do is to learn. I love learning.

“To have the opportunity to learn from one of, if not the greatest player of all time, on and off the court, learn and gather experiences that accumulate to my own knowledge base. But there’s also other guys you get an opportunity to learn from — Embiid, Maxey, Edgecombe, and even vets like KCP, etcetera.”
