Rich Paul Makes LeBron James Stance Crystal Clear

LeBron James’ free agency remains one of the biggest stories in the NBA, but according to his longtime agent Rich Paul, there is no timeline for a decision.

“We’re not going to be rushed,” Paul said speaking on the latest episode of the Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman. “We’re not going to be rushed. It’s his choice to make and when he makes the choice, he’ll make it.”

Tuesday marks three weeks since Paul informed the Los Angeles Lakers that James would not return for the 2026-27 season, opening the door for what will be his record-setting 24th NBA campaign. The Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat are all believed to remain in the mix, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

Paul also revealed that multiple teams have continued checking in to see whether there is anything more they can do to strengthen their chances of signing James.

“There’s been several people to call and say, ‘Hey, Rich, is there anything more we should be doing? We could be doing?'” Paul said. “And my answer is, ‘No. We don’t need you to go above and beyond about anything. We understand it. It’s clear. All the messages have been sent.'”

NBA commissioner Adam Silver recently admitted he would like James to announce his decision so next season’s schedule can be finalized. Paul said the two discussed those comments privately but reiterated that the timeline belongs solely to James.

“I saw Adam in New York and we discussed it,” Paul said. “And like I said, it’s still his choice. So if he doesn’t really know, you can’t rush it. You can’t rush it.”

As speculation continues, Paul insisted nobody knows when James will make his decision.

“These people don’t know anything,” Paul said. “I don’t know when his choice is going to be made, but it could be 48 seconds [from now]. It could be 48 minutes. I don’t know. Again, you can’t make somebody know something that they don’t know.”
