The New York Knicks are still celebrating their first NBA championship since 1973, and nobody appears to be enjoying it more than Mikal Bridges.
Just days after New York closed out the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5, Bridges jumped on Instagram Live and delivered an unforgettable stream that had fans talking, and apparently had Jalen Brunson questioning whether his teammate should still have access to a phone.
One of the biggest moments came when Bridges passionately campaigned for Brunson to receive a permanent place in New York sports history after leading the franchise to a title and earning NBA Finals MVP honors.
“Build him a statue,” Bridges said. “Build that little big-headed ass n—a a statue bro.”
Bridges then mocked the criticism Brunson faced when he left the Dallas Mavericks to join the Knicks in free agency.
“Just take over the Knicks and get a chip,” he continued. “That’s some savage talk.”
The livestream quickly turned into a celebration of the entire championship run.
Bridges showed off signed jerseys from teammates and friends, including Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo, while also praising Knicks owner James Dolan for helping keep the team focused during its playoff run.
“He could be a bigger savage if he built a practice facility in the city,” he said. “But he still a savage.”
At one point, Bridges referenced Dolan’s reported joke about players avoiding sex during the postseason as the Knicks powered their way to the championship.
The stream became so chaotic that Brunson eventually weighed in on social media.
“Someone take Mikal’s phone away,” Brunson said.
Bridges spent much of the livestream dancing, celebrating and even sharing his longtime Chipotle order. The Knicks forward has famously said he has eaten Chipotle every day for roughly a decade, and he proudly showed off his meal while continuing the celebration.
The festivities didn’t stop there. Bridges later danced alongside his Labrador, Sonny, while several unidentified voices could be heard in the background.
