Pacers Rookie Kam Jones Arrested for Reckless Driving

Indiana Pacers rookie Kam Jones was arrested early Monday morning after being pulled over for what police described as “erratic” driving on an Indianapolis-area freeway, according to the Indianapolis Star.

An Indiana State Police officer allegedly spotted the 22-year-old guard traveling around 90 miles per hour on I-65 in Marion County.

The officer said Jones was “rapidly changing lanes without using turn signals and following too close to other vehicles,” the report stated.

When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Jones reportedly did not pull over immediately. Instead, he continued driving for several minutes before finally stopping near an exit. Jones was then taken into custody.

Jones later told officers he was “running late for practice,” according to police.

He was preliminarily charged with one count of reckless driving and one count of resisting law enforcement, though formal charges have not yet been filed.

The Pacers released a short statement following the incident, saying, “We are aware of the situation involving Kam Jones. We are in the process of gathering additional information and will not have any further comment on the matter at this time.”

Jones, the No. 38 overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, joined Indiana after a standout college career at Marquette, where he averaged 19.2 points and 5.9 assists per game while earning All-American honors.

The Golden Eagles reached the Sweet 16 in 2024 before being eliminated in the first round this past March.

Jones has yet to make his preseason debut for the Pacers while recovering from a back injury.
