The Dallas Mavericks received a major boost this week as All-Star center Anthony Davis returned to full basketball activities following offseason surgery.
AD has resumed live action for the first time since undergoing a procedure to repair a detached retina, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

It’s believed to be Davis’ first game-speed action since it emerged in July that he needed eye surgery to mend a detached retina.

“Mavericks All-Star big man Anthony Davis returned to the practice floor this week for some 5-on-5 play,” Stein reported. “It’s believed to be Davis’ first game-speed action since it emerged in July that he needed eye surgery to mend a detached retina.”
The 32-year-old is preparing for his first full campaign with Dallas after being acquired last season.
Davis is expected to form a veteran duo alongside Klay Thompson, who enters his second year with the Mavericks.
The two reportedly spent the offseason organizing a team “bonding camp” to build chemistry before the official start of training camp.
Dallas is looking to rebound from last season’s Play-In tournament exit, and Davis’ health is central to those plans.
The franchise added several key pieces over the summer, headlined by drafting No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg and signing guard D’Angelo Russell to handle ball-handling duties until Kyrie Irving returns midseason from an ACL injury.
Irving signed an extension to stay with the Mavericks, joining Davis, Thompson, PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford as part of head coach Jason Kidd’s veteran-and-youth mix.
