Giannis Antetokounmpo’s ‘Line in the Sand’ With the Bucks Looms

Antetokounmpo (7)

Giannis Antetokounmpo will enter the 2025-26 season with Milwaukee, but the real decision on his future is only months away.

“I wouldn’t just sort of put this one to bed. Next offseason is really shaping up to be an interesting one, because next offseason is when Giannis becomes extension-eligible,” Lowe said on his podcast last week. “And it’s like four years, $300 million, some crazy number, I can’t remember what it is. And that’s the line in the sand. He either signs that or he doesn’t, and then ‘26-’27 is the last guaranteed year on his contract, he has a player option after that for $63 million. Holy smokes these salaries are getting high.”

That extension window could define whether the two-time MVP plays out his career in Milwaukee or forces the Bucks into a decision.

Lowe emphasized that “he either signs that or he doesn’t,” making it the clearest indicator yet of where the 2021 Finals MVP stands.

If Antetokounmpo commits, the Bucks will keep their franchise cornerstone locked in for the long haul.

Declining to sign would put Milwaukee in a vulnerable spot, either risking him walking for nothing in free agency or exploring the trade market for one of the top five players in the world.

The Greek Freak holds leverage as long as his option looms in 2027.

Milwaukee, meanwhile, faces a roster crunch with Bobby Portis aging and Khris Middleton’s health continuing to raise questions.

For now, all eyes remain on Milwaukee’s superstar.
