Karl-Anthony Towns Details Meeting New Head Coach Mike Brown

Karl-Anthony Towns believes the New York Knicks are entering a new era, and his first meeting with new head coach Mike Brown only reinforced that belief.

“I just came from having a two-hour dinner with Mike Brown here,” Towns said on the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast. “We never actually had a conversation with each other, so that’s the first time we actually met. We have a chance to win a championship and it only happens if everyone is connected. Everyone has to be fully invested in each other and in our goal. So, kind of just really getting to know him, his people, you know, the way he likes to play basketball, the way he wants to coach, the way he wants to operate practice and everything.”

Brown arrives in New York after two successful seasons in Sacramento, where he guided the Kings to their first playoff berth in 17 years. His high-paced system built around De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis showed his ability to maximize star talent, something Knicks players are eager to see replicated with Towns and Jalen Brunson.

“I never had a relationship with him, but he always said kind words as an opposing coach,” Brunson said recently on the Roommates Show. “I always shook his hand, said what’s up, and gave him a nod. I feel the videos that we see on Twitter, like him holding the team accountable in Sacramento, sprinting on the sidelines, it shows a different side of him – like how he’s really animated and wants the best for his team. He wants to push his team in any way, shape, or form he can. I’m excited for this and see where it can take us, it should be fun.”
