Jamal Crawford’s Bringing Back The CrawsOver League

Jamal Crawford is as busy in retirement as he was during his 20-year NBA career, and he’s adding even more to his plate.

As well as his broadcasting duties, he is back at Rainier Beach as an assistant boys basketball coach.

If that wasn’t enough, after a two-year hiatus, Crawford is even bringing his super popular pro-am basketball league back next summer.

“The Crawsover will be back,” Crawford told The Seattle Times. “Next year I have it planned out, because I know I’ll be coaching, but still there’ll be a better plan going forward for sure.”

NBA stars including Stephen Curry and Zion Williamson have already shown interest, Crawford says.

“It shows that, you know, the pro-am and Seattle basketball is not only on the map,” Crawford said. “But, you know, the best in the world are checking in for it.”

Just to put some more on his plate, Crawford will also become a lead game analyst for NBC this fall as the network returns to hosting NBA games.

“It wasn’t in the cards where I had this illustrious plan (with broadcasting),” he said. “But the fact that it’s happened this way, I feel like it’s my duty now because I love the game so much and I want to bring the fans closer to the game and, you know, entertain but hopefully they learn a little something while I’m talking.”

While juggling his broadcasting work, Crawford remains deeply tied to his roots at Rainier Beach High School.

In May, his alma mater named its new basketball court “The Jamal Crawford Court.” It forms part of the school’s renovated athletic complex named after coach Mike Bethea.

Crawford will coach his son in the team alongside Bethea this season when he’s not broadcasting.

“It’s just like a full-circle moment,” he said.
