Slovenia head coach Aleksander Sekulic has issued somewhat of a warning about Luka Doncic to other teams ahead of EuroBasket 2025.
He is looking dangerous, but certainly hasn’t hit his form yet.
“Luka has changed his way of working, and whether he is more prepared or not, we will see,” Sekulic told Meridian Sports. “He can’t be at his peak now; he has only just started training in terms of basketball. He is not the real Doncic yet, and we all know what that looks like on the court.”
Sekulic believes Doncic’s mindset is exactly where it needs to be.
“The most important thing is that Luka is very motivated, that he came to do something nice with the national team, and that he can then be ready to enter the new season.”
This summer marked a rare break for the 26-year-old Lakers star, who stepped away from basketball entirely for a month.
He overhauled his diet, explored new training methods, and even played other sports. The result was a leaner frame and a reported 31-pound weight loss.
Concerns over Doncic’s long-term health were reportedly a factor in the Mavericks trading him to the Lakers in February.
Those doubts may be fading.
“Man, he looks incredible,” an NBA scout told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “He’s quicker and more explosive. He’s getting by people more easily. I think he’s on a mission, man.”
The scout believes Doncic’s mission is to win league MVP.
His teammate, Klemen Prepelic has also noticed that Luka seems to be carrying a much greater presence than before.
“He talks much more than in the past,” Prepelic said. “He’s embracing the challenge of being the face of a franchise – in the NBA and here. His words carry weight.”
Once EuroBasket begins, we will be able to see
