Nikola Jokic has never had an All-Star running mate in his career and it’s high time the Nuggets get one.
Every time Jokic was off the court in Game 7, the Thunder piled on the points, and at one stage went on a 13-0 run when the big man sat for two minutes.
This stark contrast wasn’t just a postseason thing, it happened all season long.
The Nuggets have a lot of cash already committed to their current roster, but it’s clearly not enough to take down the big dogs in the West – plus it only yielded a 50-32 record in 2024-25.
Yahoo Sports’ Morten Stig Jensen is a big advocate for Jokic getting the help he deserves.
“It’s time for Nikola Jokić to have an All-Star running mate, which he’s never had before, and the team is painfully aware of it,” Jensen said.
“Huge contracts are still on the books for Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr., so navigating those waters could prove complicated, unless one of them is relocated via trade.”
Despite luxury tax issues, NBA teams find a way. Just this season we saw the Lakers get Luka Doncic and the Warriors get Jimmy Butler. It can be done.
He goes on to outline the Nuggets needs perfectly, but explains that it won’t necessarily be easy.
“The goal remains the same, which is to win another title and not waste the prime of one of the best basketball players to ever take the court. The recipe to do that isn’t straightforward, and the Nuggets’ overall lack of attractive assets make any roster changes difficult. However, that is the goal in front of them, meaning their immediate need is a plan, which won’t be developed until they’ve found someone to take over basketball operations. The Nuggets are short on time.”
