Anthony Davis Shares Emotional Goodbye to Lakers on Social Media

Davis

On his social media account, Anthony Davis has penned a heartfelt goodbye to the Lakers and the city of Los Angeles after being traded to the Mavericks for Luka Doncic.

This is what he said:

LA –

6 years ago, I came here with the vision to win a Championship, and I will never forget the moment we did! The business of basketball is a business just like all other businesses…I am grateful to the city where my first ring came from, grew my family and friendships and I will always have a home here. My family and I thank everyone who made this place home and we are still thinking of those that lost their homes in the fires.

To my teammates: our friendships go beyond a locker room and a jersey…
LA will always have a special place in my heart. Every great story has an exciting next chapter…
Dallas- Here we come!

Like all the parties in the deal, Davis had no idea he was being traded until Rob Pelinka called him and JJ Redick on a group call and let him know.

Interestingly, the Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade originally included multiple firsts and Dalton Knecht, Kirk Goldsberry said on The Bill Simmons Show.

“A deal got whittled down, and I think Rob Pelinka was able to convince the Mavs that Luka is a lot of risk… His drinking, his weight problem…”

Many fans are calling for his No.3 jersey to be retired by the purple and gold.

Some of his accomplishments while with the Lakers:

– NBA champion
– NBA Cup champion
– Olympic Gold
– 4× NBA All-Star
– All-NBA First Team
– All-NBA Second Team
– 2× NBA All-Defensive First Team
