34-year-old John Wall has all but given up hope about getting one last run in the NBA before he retires.
He could be seen making his broadcasting debut at the G League Winter Showcase in Orlando over the weekend.
The five-time All-Star hasn’t officially ridden off into the sunset yet, but knows the clock and ticking and he’ll need something to fall back on, so broadcasting seemed like the natural next step.
“I’m always going to critique myself,” Wall told ESPN. “I can get a lot better. I’m learning more and more, but for me, it’s talking about basketball – what I love to do. It’s what I do when I’m home, watching with my friends and kids.”
When he is at home with friends and kids, he says he can’t stop analysing the games.
“They’re like, ‘Shut up and let us watch,'” Wall said.
Wall’s last stint in the league was with the Clippers, which ended on January 13 2023 with an abdominal strain and he hasn’t stepped onto an NBA court since, despite being a free agent and averaging 16.3 points and 6.1 assists in his last stint.
“You do all you can to take care of yourself, and injuries are still part of the game of basketball,” Wall said. “Yeah, I think about that. The time I had, I enjoyed. I get frustrated at times. But God don’t make no mistakes.”
He hasn’t closed the door on an NBA return, it would be one that NBA fans across the globe would no doubt rejoice on.
“It would mean the world,” Wall said of a team signing him.. “You want to go out on your own terms. I want to finish it the way I want. If I play my last game, I want to walk off the court my way.”
