Norman Powell has been incredible to start the season, following his interesting comments about Paul George’s departure.
The 31-year-old was asked about George leaving on Media Day, to which he responded: “I saw it as addition by subtraction,” Powell said on Media Day. More guys getting opportunities, including myself…”
Since PG-13 and Russell Westbrook left the team, Powell became a starter and he certainly hasn’t squandered the opportunity.
Against the Raptors on Saturday night, Powell dropped 24 points, three rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal on 50 percent shooting from the field and from three in the Clips’ 105-103 win.
After the game, Powell was asked about his ‘addition by subtraction’ statement from October.
“I expected it for myself,” Powell said. “The work that I’ve put in and my belief, it was always for this. This level is nothing new to me. I know a lot of people outside are surprised or shocked or whatever it is, but this has been on my mind. This has been how I’ve envisioned myself being in the league, and finally getting the opportunity.”
After ten games, Powell is the surprising leading scorer for the Clippers, averaging 25.5 points per game, ahead of James Harden’s 20.9 points per game.
Even with Powell’s form, LAC are 6-4 from to start the season and clearly missing their key piece Kawhi Leonard.
Leonard continues to rehab his right knee for inflammation
Before the Raptors game, Clippers coach Ty Lue confirmed that Kawhi will not be travelling with the team for the upcoming three-game road trip.
The team have kept the updates on Leonard fairly limited, but this season have been more open than the seasons before about him missing numerous games or road trips.
