DeMarcus Cousins On Why We’ll See a ‘Happy Klay’ in Dallas

Steph Curry is still reeling from losing his longtime teammate Klay Thompson, but DeMarcus Cousins believes Klay moving on will be the best thing for everyone.

Thompson spent the past 13 seasons at Golden State, one of those seasons was with Cousins in the 2018-19 season.

Boogie thinks that the change of roles in Dallas will be the best thing for Klay.

“Obviously, Dallas got better,” Cousins said on Run It Back. “They added a third piece that complements them perfectly. There’s less pressure on Klay to perform how they were expecting him to perform in Golden State. So it’s less pressure in Dallas. I think we see Klay have a really good year. He’s going to be a perfect complimentary piece. He’s been that before with championship teams. I think he has a good comeback season.

“The biggest thing is we’ll see a happy Klay. Klay’s looking to be loved and embraced, and I think Dallas is the perfect fan base and city to achieve that. So we’ll see a happy Klay and that’s good for the NBA.”

Thompson has played three pre-season games for the Mavs so far, but unfortunately hasn’t been able to find his shooting rhythm yet. He is 3 from 30 from the field so far.

But Klay seems to be there just to enjoy the ride and help the team succeed.

“My personal goals are to be great and help this team win,” Thompson told Sportskeeda. “I don’t think about numbers of accolades or anything. I really don’t, especially 14 years in. I had enough of those.”

Head coach Jason Kidd is excited to have Thompson on board, who seems motivated as ever.

“He loves to play,” Kidd said. He works extremely hard at his craft. He’s done ever rep. He feels like he’s behind in the system. It’s a new system for him. So he wants to be involved in everything.”
