JJ Redick provided some interesting thoughts about his new team following the Lakers first couple of pre-season games.
Redick combined his love of basketball and Christopher Nolan movies to explain the position the Lakers are in right now.
“(The Lakers) have a LIMBO rate,” Redick explained. “LIMBO is you’re not crashing and you’re not getting back. We were the worst team in the league last year at a LIMBO rate. In an ideal world, everybody crashes and we deal with the consequences of that. So we’ve got to sort of emphasize that and emphasize staying out of limbo. I believe that was ‘Inception,’ we all know what happens when you get stuck in limbo.”
Redick doesn’t think the team has been been doing too bad a job of getting good looks, now its about making those shots go in.
“I actually think we’ve done a pretty good job of getting good looks,” Redick said. “There were a couple forced in transition and off of the dribble in the first half. Then there were a couple of offensive rebounds in the second half that I thought maybe we could have kept the ball moving and got a better shot. But I like the mindset overall to shoot when set, shoot good threes.”
One player Redick has been quietly impressed by on defense, which isn’t his strong suit, is Austin Reaves.
“I never thought he was a chump defensively, but he competes his ass off on that end,” Redick said after the Lakers’ practice Tuesday. “He knows what he’s supposed to do. He’s in the right spots. If he’s supposed to veer, he veers. If he’s supposed to be the low man, he’s the low man. If he’s supposed to be at the nail, he’s at the nail. He just does a lot of really good things on the basketball floor.”
