With the NBA closing in on a new media deal rumored to be worth $76 billion, player contracts will only continue to skyrocket.
So as the financial side of the NBA starts to shift massively, it’s a good time to check in with where player contracts stand, who has the biggest deals currently, and which players will soon set new records for the biggest contracts in league history.

THE NEXT PLAYERS TO SET NEW CONTRACT RECORDS
Jayson Tatum is expected to receive a 5-year, $315 million supermax extension from the Boston Celtics, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. It would be the biggest contract in NBA history, with Tatum surpassing teammate Jaylen Brown to become the new record holder.
But Tatum won’t hold the title for long. In the summer of 2025, Luka Doncic will become eligible to sign a supermax extension worth roughly $346 million over five years.

The NBA getting $7B per year for media rights will likely lock in 10% cap growth (that is the max the cap can go up) per season starting in 2025-26.
If so, the cap will top $200M in the 2028-29 season. A 35% max salary that year projects to be $72M.
