Isaiah Thomas Speaks on Competing for Minutes at Phoenix

Basketball journeyman Isaiah Thomas has signed with the Suns for the rest of the season after completing two 10-day contracts with the franchise and he’s eager to compete for minutes on the court.

In his four games for the Suns so far, the guard is averaging 3.5 minutes per contest and the longest amount of time he’s been on the court is eight minutes.

On Tuesday, Thomas was asked if he feels like in the time he’s been with Phoenix that he’s proven he deserves to be on the court.

To which Thomas answered, “I am who I am. The world knows that. I know the coaching staff knows what I bring. It’s just a situation where you just got to stay ready.”

The 35-year-old also shared with reporters that when he was introduced back to the team, he felt as though he had a chip on shoulder that won’t leave.

Thomas says that no matter what, he will prepare for every game like he’s going to play a significant amount of minutes.

“I’m always super positive each and every day,” said Thomas. “Each and every day, I feel like I’m going to get in the game But whether I do or not, it’s bigger than that. But I know if my name is called, I’m going to make a really, really positive impact on the court to make things easier for each and everybody just out there that I’m with.”

The 12-season NBA veteran has become one of the team’s vocal leaders, along with Devin Booker, Bradley Beal and Thad Young, Suns forward Ish Wainwright shared.

“He’s a vocal leader, for sure,” Wainwright said on You’ve Got Mail. “Like I said, I respect him, everybody respects him, he’s been through a lot. It’s amazing to see him back in the league. He’s been bringing a lot to the team, vocal.”

The Suns lost an important game against the Clippers on Tuesday and could fall out of Playoff contention if they continue to drop these last few regular season games.
