The Team USA basketball roster has started to take shape ahead of this year’s Olympics in Paris, as one insider reveals who the ‘locks’ for the team are.
Players that are “considered locks for the Paris Games, barring injury” include Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Devin Booker, Joel Embiid and Jayson Tatum, according to The Athletic.
Another player that Team USA are keen to include is Celtics guard Jrue Holiday.
“USA Basketball has been pursuing Holiday for much of the NBA season, and it’s believed Holiday has delivered his commitment to USAB officials in recent weeks, sources said,” The Athletic reported. “Team officials have valued Holiday’s two-way ability, point-of-attack defense and dynamic playmaking. Holiday was considered Team USA’s second-most important player behind Kevin Durant on the gold-medal-winning team in Tokyo in 2021.”
The US are expected to take their strongest team to the Games, especially after USA’s embarrassing showing at last year’s FIBA World Cup, where they were showed out by Dennis Schroder’s Germany team.
For some of the NBA’s stars like Durant, Curry and LeBron, it could be their last chances to win a gold medal with their home country.
James will be 43 years of age when the 2028 Olympics roll around.
However it is in his home city of Los Angeles, so if he has already retired, no doubt he will be there.
The 2024 Summer Olympic Games will take place in Paris between Fri, 26 July 2024 – Sun, 11 Aug 2024.
Team USA will be looking to take out its fifth straight gold medal and 17th overall.
