Although Jamal Murray played an outstanding Game 3 against the Heat that led to a 109-94 victory, he sustained a hand injury during the contest.
“Reporting from the #NBAFinals: post Game 3 Nuggets Jamal Murray showed me his left hand which had broken open & scraped skin on the palm, that happened after he dove in game,” ESPN’s Ros Gold-Onwode tweeted. “Throughout the game I noticed they tried putting ice on it and wrapping it at the end of the game w/ tape. Seemed the wound was stinging to touch so he pulled the wrap off. Even through that he played 45 minutes & had a 34-point triple-double.”
It didn’t seem as though the injury was mentioned on the broadcast, though many NBA fans on Twitter noticed him favoring his shooting hand during the game.
“Maybe I missed it, but I don’t think the broadcast mentioned that Jamal Murray ended the game with a wrap on his left hand,” One Twitter user wrote.
“Jamal Murray looked like he was headed for 50 points before he injured his hand,” another Twitter user wrote.
His hand didn’t slow him down too much though, because Murray and Nikola Jokic became the first pair of teammates with triple-doubles in NBA Finals history.
“I’ve been with Nikola [Jokic] for 8 [years] and Jamal [Murray] for seven years now,” Denver coach Michael Malone said. “We’ve had some pretty good moments. But not in the NBA Finals… By far their greatest performance as a duo in their seven years together.”
There have been multiple hand injuries these playoffs, with Boston’s Jaylen Brown carrying one through to the Conference Finals.
While Miami’s Tyler Herro has been kept out of the postseason since the first round.
We will provide more updates on Murray’s injury as they become available.
