Will Jokic Win MVP?Suns vs. Nuggets Preview, Odds & Predictions

Will Jokic win MVP? Denver (52-27) head to Phoenix (44-35) with hopes of answering the question every NBA fan is asking. The Suns are looking to secure the 4th seed in the West with a win at home, scheduled to tipoff Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 10:00 PM ET.

Jokic will have a tough task ahead of him covering a significant 7 point spread, with the Suns heading into this matchup as the clear favorite.

MATCH PREVIEW

The Nuggets have already secured the top seed in the NBA Playoff Bracket for the Western Conference. They prepare to face the Suns, who are also already among the top four teams, it is possible that this matchup may serve as a mere formality as the regular season comes to an end.

With Memphis losing to New Orleans, Denver was guaranteed the top spot and will likely rest their stars – Jokic (calf) and Jamal Murray (thumb), who are currently listed as questionable.

The battle between Jokic and Joeld Embiid for the MVP could see Jokic take the court in a final attempt to solidify his MVP campaign which has seen him average 24.8 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 9.8 assists this season.

Meanwhile, Phoenix is on a six-game winning streak and has not lost in the seven games since Kevin Durant joined their team, so carrying that undefeated form into the playoffs will be key in their run to the finals.

ODDS AND PREDICTIONS

The upcoming game will mark the fourth and final encounter between these teams for the season. Phoenix aims to tie the four- game regular season series and continue their undefeated streak since Durant’s arrival, by securing a victory at home.

The Suns have a 21-17-1 record against the spread (ATS) at home this season and an 18-12-1 ATS record as the home favorite. Additionally, during their six-game winning streak, they have covered the spread in five matches with an average win margin of 13 points.

On the other hand, Denver has only covered the spread 10 times in 25 games as a road underdog, and only three out of the last ten head to head meetings.  Denver’s defense comes into the game ranking eighth in the league, something that hasn’t necessarily reflected in their recent performance. On the other side, Phoenix’s offense, led by Devin Booker and Durant, will come out firing as they continue to build out their team chemistry.

Will Jokic win MVP? Outside of Jokic’s MVP hopes, Denver has nothing left to play for, and won’t bring the necessary intensity to win this game, nor cover the spread.

Spread: Suns -7.0

Moneyline: Suns -265, Nuggets +225

Pick: Suns -7.0
