Cebellaos, 52, played 11 seasons in the NBA, including the 1993 Phoenix Suns team that lost to the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Finals.
The Suns picked Ceballos in the second round of the 1990 draft.
He played four seasons with Phoenix before going to the Lakers and then bouncing between several teams.
Ceballos had career averages of 14.3 points, grabbed 5.3 rebounds, and passed 1.2 assists.
Ceballos did not reveal if he was vaccinated or how he may have contracted the virus.
The NBA has not mandated that all players be vaccinated for COVID-19, but the league is putting in new separate protocols for vaccinated and unvaccinated players to abide by this season.
