It feels like Christmas is just around the corner, doesn’t it?!
I mean, it literally is, but it feels like we’re all now beginning to get that internal buzz that hits you a few weeks before the start of a new NBA season. That feeling was only heightened with the NBA’s release of the first half of the 2020-21 season schedule.
Sifting through the slate, there’s a number of matchups that jump off the page as ‘must watch’ entertainment.
Not least, the first matchup between Lonzo and LaMelo Ball on the 8th of January, 2021, should be a ratings bonanza. Charlotte drafted the latter with the third overall pick in this year’s edition of the draft, whilst older brother Lonzo will look to take another leap with the New Orleans Pelicans when the season tips on the 22nd of December.
It’s not the only game we’re looking forward to, though.
John Wall and Russell Westbrook run into each other when the Washington Wizards and Houston Rockets go toe-to-toe on January 26th, 2021.
Dame and Steph look set to light it up from (a long way) beyond the arc when Portland and the Golden State Warriors lock horns in a new year’s day blockbuster.
These stories have a cap on word limits, and we could wax lyrical about hundreds of these matchups. Gordon Hayward’s return to Boston. CP3 against the Thunder, and Houston. AD continuing his run of bonkers performances against the Pels. There are narratives upon narratives that play out each and every night. Every NBA season is like a new series of a long-running reality TV show.
And that is why we love it.
Bring on the 22nd.
