Karl Anthony-Towns Speaks About Mother's Death To Covid-19

Timberwolves big man Karl Anthony-Towns has taken to YouTube to detail the heartbreaking lead-up to the death of his mother, Jackie Cruz-Towns, who sadly passed away with Covid-19 in April.

In the video, Towns spoke of the time he spent with her in hospital, and the moments leading up to her passing.

“At that moment [in hospital] I pulled the plug and just let her pass,” Towns said.

“They [the doctors] told me she may be alive [for] another hour, maybe two.”

Towns said that the final moments of her life were shared virtually with family, who laughed and told stories to one another.

“She was sent off with laughter,” Towns continued.

Both Towns’ mother and father were diagnosed with Covid, but as the Timberwolves all star explained, his mother suffered a stroke whilst recovering – which came as a total shock.

“He [Towns’ Dad] was just like, ‘She’s gone. She had a stroke during the night and she’s gone.’ I said, ‘Has she taken a step back? What’s the next step?’ Because in my mind, I’m just thinking about [next] steps,” Towns said.

“He had just told me those doctors thought there was no way for meaningful life from her after this stroke, [and] It just got to a point where it was harming her,” Towns continued.

“I gave her all the time, and I made the hardest decision you can make. I called my sister, I told her what the decision I made was. You’ve got to live with that, [and] I made that decision.”

Towns said that the grieving process was ongoing.

“I’m trying to heal myself through others,” Towns said.

“I’m trying to do as much as I can for my sister and my father. Trying to take care of my friends, and I’m trying to heal myself through them,” Towns finished.
