Lonzo Ball has spoken out against his father’s brand of sneakers, exposing how they were dangerous they were on the court during his NBA career.
LaVar Ball launched Big Baller Brand as an affordable alternative to the heavyweights and made Lonzo Ball the star athlete after he was drafted as the second overall pick for the Lakers in 2017.
However, years later, the former Lakers star admitted that he regrets joining the brand – for a number of reasons.
“If I can go back, I would obviously do it different. I would actually get an agent, be in the meetings myself, do what I wanted to do,” he said on Michael Porter Jr.’s Curious Mike podcast.
“I didn’t like the shoes I addressed that I didn’t like the shoes, but then we would get into an argument and it would be like, ‘Damn, if you don’t wear the shoes, then you’re going against the family type sh**.
“I never went to any Nike deal, no Adidas deal. I never heard no offers or nothing. I was just doing what I was told, really.
“I guess that would be my one regret, like taking control of my career earlier. Really, I was just following my pops, just doing what I was told.”
Lonzo also revealed, “The shoe wasn’t a basketball shoe bro. It wasn’t ready to be used. I tried to play in it, but it would rip and pop out every quarter.”
LaVar Ball founded Big Baller Brand with associate, Alan Foster in 2016, during Ball’s final year with the UCLA Bruins.
Three years in, Lonzo left Big Baller Brand after Foster was accused of embezzling upwards of $1.5 million.
Big Baller Brand (or BBB) is still around today, but is more of a lifestyle brand that promotes partnerships with other similar brands and car companies.
