Bronny James has finally addressed his father’s departure from Los Angeles, and he didn’t exactly have much to say about it.
LeBron James left the Lakers for the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason, bringing an end to his time playing alongside his son in Los Angeles. While signing autographs and taking photos with young fans, Bronny was asked how he felt about his dad leaving the Lakers.
His response was about as casual as it gets.
“It’s whatever, it’s my Dad,” Bronny said, according to the New York Post.
The short answer quickly made its way around social media, with fans having plenty of fun with Bronny’s reaction to one of the biggest moves of the offseason.
But beyond the jokes, LeBron’s exit represents a major change for Bronny heading into his third NBA season.
For the first time in his professional career, the 21-year-old won’t have his father alongside him in Los Angeles. Bronny has appeared in 69 games across his first two seasons, averaging 2.7 points, 1.1 assists and 0.6 rebounds.
LeBron’s move to Philadelphia also closes the book on a historic chapter for the James family. The two became the first father-son duo to play together in an NBA game after Bronny was selected by the Lakers with the 55th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft.
Now, Bronny will have an opportunity to establish himself in Los Angeles without his father’s presence dominating the conversation around his career.
He’s already spending time with his Lakers teammates ahead of the new season.
Bronny is currently among the group visiting Luka Doncic’s home country of Slovenia, with the Lakers reportedly flying there aboard a Bombardier Global 8000 jet. Videos from the trip have shown players going out for dinner, spending time on boats and taking in the country.
It’s a very different-looking Lakers team without LeBron, and a new situation for Bronny after spending his first two NBA seasons alongside his father.
Judging by his first public response, though, Bronny doesn’t appear too concerned about the change.
