Have the Warriors failed Steph Curry with their pursuit of big stars this summer? Kendrick Perkins certainly thinks so.
There were rumors regarding LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Giannis Antetokounmpo..the list goes on.
But, after all that, the Warriors only managed to re-sign Draymond Green, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Gary Payton II, and De’Anthony Melton.
Perkins definitely doesn’t think that will be enough to make the Warriors contenders this upcoming 2026-27 season.
The ESPN NBA analyst was recently asked about the Warriors chances at competing for an NBA championship, and it’s safe to say he wasn’t at all optimistic.
“I mean, when you talk about Steph Curry, Steve Kerr, and Draymond Green, every year they step foot on the floor, it’s either championship or bust,” Kendrick Perkins said. “It’s no in-between. It’s no middle ground because you have Steph Curry, who’s about to be 39 this year, I believe. And Steph Curry wants to win a championship. Is this a championship roster? Absolutely not. Is it a team that we look up and they’ll be in the playoffs come post-season time? I believe so, through the play-in tournament.
“But again, the Warriors know that it’s time to upgrade. It’s time to move some pieces. We don’t know what Jimmy Butler’s going to look like. I thought at times it was too many lows and not enough highs last season when it came to the production from [Brandin] Podziemski. So again, if it was just a team trying to get in the playoffs, then I say, yeah, you could be optimistic, but this is a team that’s trying to win a title and trying to get out of a tough Western Conference.”
The West is tough, but the East is even tougher this season.
Golden State may really struggle top keep up with the quality of basketball being played this season.
But then again, Steph Curry does love it when his back is up against the wall.
