Stephen Curry has added another remarkable achievement to his legendary career, becoming the first active NBA player to receive a dedicated exhibit inside the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
The new display, titled “Stephen Curry: Beyond the Arc,” officially opens to the public on Friday in Springfield, Massachusetts. The exhibit will showcase championship memorabilia, Olympic artifacts, game-worn equipment and archival footage documenting Curry’s rise from an overlooked prospect to one of the greatest players the sport has ever seen.
Curry admitted the recognition is something he never imagined receiving while still playing in the NBA.
“Being part of the Basketball Hall of Fame in this way is hard to put into words,” Curry said in a release Tuesday. “When I think about my journey, I think about the people who believed in me, the work that happened when nobody was watching and the moments that shaped me on and off the court. To have that story told while I’m still playing is something I don’t take lightly.”
The Hall of Fame believes Curry’s impact stretches far beyond his individual accomplishments, crediting him with changing the way basketball is played around the world.
“Stephen has not only redefined how the game of basketball is played, but he has also set a blueprint for what it means to be an exemplary role model,” Hall of Fame president and CEO John Doleva said. “This is truly a historic moment for us and for basketball fans worldwide.”
The honor comes as Curry prepares for his 18th NBA season with the Golden State Warriors. Despite already building one of the most decorated résumés in league history, the four-time NBA champion has previously said he hopes to continue playing for at least another two seasons.
Curry is also expected to begin extension discussions with the Warriors once he becomes eligible in late August.
