Former Cavaliers champion Iman Shumpert has discussed which teams make the most sense for LeBron James to sign with, and he thinks Cleveland isn’t one of them.
Shumpert won a chip with LeBron himself at the Cavs in 2016, but he thinks that the 76ers or Warriors would be the best team for James to join right now.
“If I’m LeBron in this moment, I want to win. Like, I know the retirement tour means so much to everybody else. The only thing that means anything to me is LeBron getting six rings to match Jordan,” Shumpert said. “The only way I see that route going is Philly or Golden State.”
Steph Curry and James have already proved they’re a lethal combination after their fairytale run in the 2024 Olympics for Team USA.
But Shumpret still thinks their age will show in the playoffs.
“I don’t know why Steph Curry always proves me wrong by having more in the tank, but I’m done betting against the light-skinned dude with the eyes,” Shump stated. “So, if he goes over there, I would expect to see great basketball, and I expect to see a slugfest in the playoffs where Father Time has to beat the youth.”
Philly are another good option, Shumpert thinks, especially after adding in Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown to the roster.
“On the other hand, I could see Philly. He would be the great glue guy they always needed, and he would give another franchise that has been longing for a championship a chance to go and get a title,” Shump conveyed. “Tyrese Maxey has been all the legs LeBron needs. VJ Edgecombe has all the legs LeBron needs to just do his thing and not run rampant around anybody.”
“Yeah, give me LeBron to Philly or LeBron to Golden State. LeBron to Golden State makes a little bit more sense to me,” he stated. “To go out playing with Steph. Even though it’s going to piss us all off for the first couple of games. I ain’t going to lie. It’s going to piss me off. Same way it pissed me off with KD, but after a while I’ll get over it.”
