Luka Doncic’s Historic Month of March Rewrites Lakers Records

Doncic (59)

Luka Doncic is putting together a stretch that will be remembered in Los Angeles for a long time.

In the Lakers’ win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Doncic delivered another dominant performance with 42 points and 12 assists, continuing what has been a historic run throughout March. But beyond the stat line, it was the milestone behind it that turned heads across the league.

Doncic surpassed Kobe Bryant for the most points scored in March in franchise history, finishing March with over 600 total points. In doing so, he also entered rare air alongside Michael Jordan, the only other player in NBA history to reach that mark in the month, when Jordan posted 676 points back in 1987.

The run itself has been relentless. Doncic has now scored at least 30 points in 13 straight games, including three consecutive outings of 40 or more.

It’s the kind of form that not only puts him in the MVP conversation, but also positions the Los Angeles Lakers as one of the most dangerous teams heading into the postseason.

Yet for Doncic, the individual accolades take a back seat to the bigger picture.

“For sure. I mean, if you don’t win, it doesn’t really mean anything,” Doncic said after the victory over the Cavaliers. “The run we have been on, I mean, it really means a lot. So, we just have to keep building on that.”

That mindset has translated directly into results. The Lakers finished the month with a 15-2 record, climbing firmly into the top tier of the Western Conference standings. Along the way, Doncic also reached another personal milestone, becoming the third-youngest player in league history to hit 15,000 career points, trailing only LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
