Victor Wembanyama and his dominance has gone from remarkable to historic.
The 21-year-old phenom led the San Spurs to a 118-107 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, pushing the team to a 3-0 start and etching his name into NBA history in the process.
Wembanyama is the first player ever to score 100 points and block at least 18 shots in his team’s first three games of a season, a feat that even legends like Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson never achieved, according to the NBA.
The 7-foot-4 French superstar finished with 31 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 blocks, marking his third straight double-double and another statement performance to open the 2025-26 campaign.
Through three games, he’s averaging 34.5 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 blocks in just over 31 minutes per contest, numbers that have stunned the basketball world.
“I feel like it is where we should be. It feels great every night,” Wembanyama said postgame. “You know, it definitely is a boost for motivation.”
His two-way brilliance was on full display again Sunday. In the first half, he blocked back-to-back shots on one defensive possession before racing down the floor to bury a deep three that pushed San Antonio’s lead to 21. Asked about that sequence, he smiled.
“You need to trust yourself,” he said. “Sometimes that’s what I did.”
Wembanyama bursted into the 2026 season and was a running highlight reel in the first game of the season.
He was sidelined last season with blood clots and reflected on the possibility of not playing again.
“I’m much more in control of myself. The mind, I’m not worried about because I saw what it’s like to be confronted with potentially losing a lot, whether it’s your career or your health, so I’m not taking this for granted anymore,” said Wembanyama in the postgame conference.
“I’m having more fun now that I’m not struggling to move as much, and I know I still need to get better, and I’m still going to get better.”
Scary hours.
