Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey is in legal trouble after reportedly being clocked at over 100 miles per hour during a traffic stop in Indiana.
Edey was pulled over on May 1 in Tippecanoe County, home to his alma mater Purdue, after an Indiana State Police trooper caught him speeding at “101 mph in a 55-mph zone” along Indiana State Road 25, according to Fox 59.
Per the police report, the officer said Edey’s northbound Kia Sorento flew past his cruiser just after 7:00 p.m.
The trooper turned around, caught up to Edey near Tippecanoe County Road 700 South, and initiated the stop.
Edey, reportedly told the officer he was “trying to pass a vehicle” at the time, but did not provide any further explanation.
The former Purdue star now faces misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and excessive speeding.
He has a court hearing scheduled for Monday, June 24, in Tippecanoe Superior Court 6.
Edey’s legal team has not issued a statement, and the Grizzlies have yet to comment publicly.
His status for training camp remains unchanged as of now, but depending on the court’s outcome, it may not stay that way.
Edey was selected ninth overall by Memphis in last year’s NBA Draft after leading Purdue to the NCAA championship game in 2024. During his rookie season with the Grizzlies, he averaged 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
