How Draymond Green Reacted When Klay Thompson Told Him He Was Leaving

Draymond Green has opened up about the moment Klay Thompson told him and Steph Curry that he was leaving the Golden State Warriors.

Green made the comments on the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show.

“I don’t really now how I feel about it,” he said. “Klay told us last week. I don’t know who he told but I know he talked to me, pretty sure he talked to Steph last week. And he just kind of was like, ‘Yeah man like, just kind of started talking through the years, like (it’s) been great, what we’ve done is so special.”

Green added that he didn’t try to change Thompson’s mind, saying he simply heard him out and respected his decision.

“When Klay told me, I was just able to listen,” he said. “It wasn’t like, ‘Yo we could finish like this’, or like, ‘You should rethink this.’ It was just like, ‘Wow, like alright, congrats bro, like I’m happy for you, that’s dope.’ You know and to obviously reassure that that (it) changes nothing for us. You know, like, changes the basketball court, obviously. But the relationships, they are what they are. They are forever.”

Green also said he was close to leaving the Warriors himself. The four-time NBA champion claims he almost departed Golden State for Memphis last season.

“I called Klay and I called Steph on separate calls, and Steve, and I was just telling them like, ‘Yo, I’m leaving. I’m going to Memphis,'” he said.

In the end, the Warriors convinced Green to stay, signing him to a four-year, $100 million extension.
