The Lakers need to win three more games until they reach the NBA Finals and Anthony Davis is aware that he and LeBron may not get many more chances to win a title together.
The LA big man stressed the importance of not taking the current opportunity in the postseason for granted.
“When you look at me and Bron, we consider ourselves one of the top duos in the league,” Davis said. “We’re trying to do everything we can to try to take advantage of this window that we have. Championship-built teams don’t always come around.”
In a playoff series where LeBron and Davis have been fully healthy, they’ve never lost. So there’s no time like the present to repeat their 2020 title win.
After that emphatic championship win in 2020, the Lakers failed to make the postseason the next season, mainly due to injuries to LeBron and AD.
When the purple and gold started the current season 2-10, they were only given a 0.3 percent chance of making the playoffs, so they have certainly defied odds by getting this far.
They had an incredible turnaround in the backend of the season with the trade deadline becoming the catalyst for a new roster to thrive.
AD has been putting in the work this postseason, and in Game 1 of the second round v Warriors, he had 30 points and 23 rebounds in the Lakers’ 117-112 win.
“He’s playing like the top 5 NBA player that he is,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said of his power forward after the game.
LeBron echoed Ham’s sentiments: “The number three will be up in the rafters… he continues to show why he’s one of the best players we have in this league.”
In the first seven playoffs games LA have played, AD is averaging 22.1 points per game, 15 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.1 steals and a league-leading 4.3 blocked shots.
As for LeBron, he has taken a different tack by playing off-ball, which has allowed players like Austin Reaves and D’Angelo to score more points.
The NBA’s greatest scorer in history is still managing an average of 22.1 points, 11.1 rebounds and five assists per game.
LeBron and Davis have a chance to get one step closer to the 2023 NBA Finals when they play the Warriors in Game 2 on Thursday, May 4th at 6:00PM ET.
