Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges plead not guilty to felony domestic violence charges in a Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday.
The 6-foot-7 and 225-pound Bridges was charged with a felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felony counts of child abuse, according to the LA County District Attorney’s Office.
The 2018 first-round draft pick was arrested June 29th after an altercation with Mychelle Johnson, mother of their two children.
Bridges was released on $130,000 bail and is due back in court on August 19 for a preliminary hearing.
The case is still under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
“Domestic violence creates physical, mental, and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón in a press release. “Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable, and the impact on them is immeasurable. Mr. Bridges will be held accountable for his actions, and our Bureau of Victim Services will support the survivors through this difficult process.”
Johnson shared photos of her injuries on social media and accused the NBA star of choking her, breaking her nose, and giving her a concussion.
Bridges, 24, was the Hornets’ leading scorer last season, averaging 20.2 points, 7.0 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in his fourth year in the NBA.
Charlotte extended Bridges a qualifying offer, which allows them a chance to match any offer sheet he signs with another team, right before he was arrested.
The team released the following statement on Tuesday: “The Charlotte Hornets are aware of the situation involving Miles Bridges. We are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time.”
