With the NBA Draft rapidly approaching, more details continue to leak about potential top picks, interested teams, and possible trades leading into the period.
Today’s major news on the draft front centres around consensus top three potential pick James Wiseman, who has expressed a clear opposition to being drafted by the owners of the no.1 pick – The Minnesota Timberwolves.
It’s reported that the Golden State Warriors (no.2 pick) and the Charlotte Hornets (no.3 pick) are both keen on the big man, but again, that decision is not theirs to make if the Timberwolves do want to make a play for him.
Brian Windhorst (ESPN) came out with this news on a podcast yesterday, citing the current roster at the Timberwolves as Wiseman’s main point of opposition.
“Wiseman does not want to come to Minnesota because Karl-Anthony Towns is there,” Windhorst said.
“From what I understand, Wiseman doesn’t even want to do anything with them [the Wolves].”
There is every chance that Wiseman will get his wish, with the Timberwolves locked into their 24-year old big man for years to come, and they continue to build their offense around him. In many ways, it would be a strange move from Minnesota to pick him up.
There is also a possibility that Minnesota will trade down and out of their no.1 pick, as they look to try and get some current league assets back in what is a unanimously agreed upon weaker draft than most.
