The Lakers signed Ziaire Williams in the offseason – who is Bronny James’ former teammate at Sierra Canyon – and could prove an important part of the Lakers’ success this season.
Williams spent the last two seasons of his NBA career Nets, after being drafted by the Pelicans (then immediately traded to the Grizzlies).
Bronny is happy that one of the familiar faces Williams knows in LA is his.
“I’ve been here for a few years now so I got relationships with all the guys that have been here,” James said. “But I also think it’s good for him to have a guy over here that he knows and he can come talk to or whatever he needs. He’s been to L.A. so he doesn’t need help with that, but just being in the gym, if he needs anything from me or if he wants to ask me about anything that he needs I’m here for him and it’s great to have him. I was playing with him at the end of our scrimmage segment today so it was great being out there with him.”
Bronny thinks it’s a great opportunity for Williams to show the purple and gold what he can do.
“He’s in an organization now that has a big name and a lot of fans are rooting for us,” James said. “So I think it’s gonna be big for him to come out and showcase what he can do on a bigger stage.”
Williams wasted no time doing that in the Lakers’ preseason opener against the Kings and showed why he should be in contention for a starting power forward spot.
The 25-year-old finished with 13 points, one rebound, and one steal in a nearly perfect outing.
