Bill Simmons’ Wild Bronny Trade Idea to Rattle LeBron James

A very funny idea involving LeBron and Bronny James has been gaining traction online.

A fan wrote into the Bill Simmons podcast and floated the idea of an Eastern Conference team trading for Bronny, for the sole purpose of guarding LeBron during key moments in the playoffs.

”This is really good,” Simmons said of the idea. “I would have a lot of trouble embarrassing my son in front of a crowd of 20,000 people in a nationally televised game.”

Simmons and his guest on the pod even took it a step further by suggesting that the Cavaliers would be the perfect team to execute this plan.

“And I have to tell you, so this LeBron thing—if you’re Cleveland, you trade like a minimum for Bronny, bring him back, LeBron is on the team, and now he’s just kind of lurking as almost like a kryptonite situation for LeBron,” Simmons said. “Put him on there, and LeBron just has to naturally—that’s your parent, you naturally have to ease up; your instinct is always to protect your kids at all times. I think it’s a great idea.”

At this stage, Bronny looks to be locked into playing for the Lakers in season 2027. Bronny travelled to Slovenia with the team for a camp led and paid for by Luka Doncic to help the team bond.

However, Bronny must work his way into the rotation, since is an undersized point guard without the skills to play that position.

The young guard enters his third NBA season and is set to make $2.2 million this year, with a $2.4 million team option for the 2027-28 season.

He will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2028 if the Lakers don’t extend him before then.
