LeBron James Takes Golf Obsession to YouTube

James (189)

LeBron James has officially launched a golf-focused YouTube channel, kicking things off with a reunion featuring several members of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ historic 2016 championship team.

James debuted the channel with a video lasting more than 90 minutes, documenting a golf trip to Scotland in June alongside former Cavaliers teammates Kevin Love, J.R. Smith, Richard Jefferson, Tristan Thompson and Channing Frye.

The group famously helped Cleveland end its 52-year professional sports championship drought in 2016, overcoming a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.

James’ new venture will give fans a closer look at his journey into golf while also featuring the experiences that come with traveling to some of the world’s most famous courses.

“Follow along as LeBron brings his friends and fans along for the journey as golf takes him to some of the world’s greatest courses,” the description of James’ first YouTube video reads. “Come for the game, stay for the great local food, wine, and a whole lot of laughs along the way.”

James has become increasingly interested in golf and recently explained that his ambitions with the sport extend beyond simply learning to play.

“My goal is to open doors for kids that look like me growing up in the inner city, to be able to go to country clubs at 7, 8, 9 years old and be able to go out and caddy or be able to go out and rent clubs and be able to be coached and play the game of golf,” James said speaking with NBA agent and Boardroom co-founder Rich Kleiman at the CNBC Sport x Boardroom Game Plan Summit in New York City in July. “And it’s not because they can’t afford it. It’s because they have a passion of wanting to play that sport.”

The channel arrives during another major transition for James.

He considered returning to Cleveland during the offseason before ultimately signing with Philadelphia, a decision he has described as the final free agency move of his NBA career.

Now, as he prepares for his first season with the Sixers, James has another project to keep him busy away from basketball.
