Chris Paul Say He’s Moving Forward After Clippers Split

Chris Paul and his abrupt exit from the Los Angeles Clippers may have stunned the league, but the 40-year-old future Hall of Famer insists he’s calm, grounded and embracing whatever comes next. Paul said he’s “at peace with everything,” even as the final chapter of his Clippers return played out far differently than expected.

“Stuff’s been a little crazy in the past few days — to say the least,” Paul said speaking with People magazine. “But honestly, I’m home. My daughter had tryouts yesterday. My nephew had a basketball game. My son has a game coming up on the 12th.”

For Paul, the timing has created an unexpected gift.

“I have never seen my son play a game in person. Not a middle school game, not a high school game. So I’m excited about seeing him play,” he said.

While Paul focused on family, Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue spent Tuesday addressing an ESPN report claiming the two had stopped speaking in recent weeks. Lue shut it down immediately.

“That ain’t true. We were talking,” Lue said to reporters at practice. “I mean, he played. How he gonna play [if] I’m not talking to him?

“I had no problem with Chris. The guy’s a competitor, he wants to play. You can understand that. So, you know, he was a little frustrated at first, but we got over that. … That’s my guy, my friend before he got here. So you don’t want to see that happen to anybody no matter what the circumstances are.”

The Clippers officially cut ties after Paul posted at 3 a.m., “Just Found Out I’m Being Sent Home,” on December 3rd. Hours later, team president Lawrence Frank confirmed, “We are parting ways with Chris, and he will no longer be a part of the team. We will work with him on the next step of his career.”
