Latest Ja Morant Trade Rumors: Timberwolves Check In, Heat Lurk as Option

The Ja Morant trade rumors are not going away anytime soon. Here’s the latest:

The Minnesota Timberwolves have quietly made inquiries about a potential trade for the Memphis Grizzlies guard, testing the waters as the young star continues to express frustration in Memphis.

“There’s no real point guard on the roster. They’re asking Anthony Edwards to do it. They’re asking Julius Randle to do a lot of point forward stuff. They certainly have checked in with Memphis on Ja,” Jon Krawczynski revealed on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “They’re testing the waters a little bit. I don’t get the sense that there’s anything real close. I do think that, if we get to late December and the Wolves are still treading water and that point guard position still has not solidified … I do think that they could explore at least looking harder at Ja Morant.”

Minnesota’s interest comes as the team continues to search for stability at the one spot.

Despite owning the fourth-ranked offense in the NBA, the Timberwolves’ defense, once a top-10 unit, has slipped to the middle of the pack. And while Mike Conley’s departure left a leadership void at point guard, Morant’s ball-dominant style raises questions about his fit alongside Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns.

As for the Heat, they also remain a plausible team for a down-and-out Ja.

“Yes, yes, and yes, because that’s who Pat Riley is,” Heat beat reporter Ira Winderman said about Morant’s fit with Miami on SiriusXM. “It’s Pat Riley’s home for distressed players. And I will take this back to 1996. Tim Hardaway is taken out of the starting lineup by Rick Adelman. Bum knees, his career was over; he’s a shot player. Who would take a chance on him? Boom.”

Winderman noted that Jimmy Butler’s move to Miami in 2021 followed a similar redemption arc, one that ultimately took the Heat to two NBA Finals.
