Victor Wembanyama Shares Surprising Take on His Height Amidst Rumors

The great debate that is raging around league circles at the moment is that of Victor Wembanyama’s height.

Right now, he is listed as 7’4″, an increase from 7’3″ last season. Since he only young, it’s not uncommon for him to still be growing.

Rumblings began when “the Spurs’ training camp roster revealed his official height had increased an inch to 7-foot-4. Then, the Spurs’ website briefly listed his height at 7-5 before changing back to 7-4, which was a clerical error from an integration issue with the league’s website, according to the team,” The Athletic reports.

7′ 4″ Boban also helped to stir up rumors by saying he had to look up at Wemby on the court when he played him, while ESPN’s Brian Windhorst made the claim he thinks the freakish Frenchman is closer to 7’7″.

However, there is a strict measuring protocol in the NBA.

“They have to certify that (the measurement) is real,” NBA President of League Operations Byron Spruell said, via The Athletic. “Even with a re-measure, they still need a certification.”

Of course, Wemby himself was asked about the hot topic by the media, but was pretty confused as to why people care so much.

“The truth is, yes, sometimes I’m surprised that it’s still a conversation,” Wembanyama said. “It really doesn’t make a difference, to tell you the truth. I’m taller than everybody else. That’s all you need to know.”

He wants everyone to know that his height is an inconsequential part of his story.

“Over the years, it has become a non-subject to me,” Wembanyama said, before cracking a smile. “Because, in my opinion, there’s so many more interesting things about me.”

He later added, “I literally never think about my height. When people ask you, ‘How is it to be tall?’ It’s like, I don’t know, I’ve been like this forever.”
