There are some rising NBA stars that have gone down with injury, as well as seasoned veterans.

JOEL EMBIID

Sixers big man Joel Embiid has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to his ongoing knee issues.

The 76ers could reportedly consider medically retiring Joel Embiid, according to NBA Insider Keith Smith.

“76ers could petition for a medical retirement for Joel Embiid if he’s unable to play a year from now,” Smith said. “At that point, an independent doctor, selected by the NBA and NBPA would examine Embiid. If agreed he can no longer play, his remaining contract would be wiped off the books for the Sixers.”

Philly owe Embiid up to $300M over the next five seasons.

AUSTIN REAVES

After exiting the Lakers game against the Clippers early, Reaves has been cleared of any serious damage to his calf, Shams says.

“…Reaves will be day-to-day after MRI on his right calf revealed no serious injury, sources tell ESPN. His status is uncertain for Sunday against the Clippers, but great development overall after Reaves exited early in Friday’s win.”

CHET HOLMGREN

Two minutes into Saturday’s game against the Hawks, Chet Holmgren sustained a left ankle sprain when he rolled it on Dyson Daniels’s foot.

Holmgren stayed in the game and played the rest of the first half before being ruled out with the injury at halftime.

He was since ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Spurs due to a sprained left ankle.

It is unclear how long he will be sidelined with the injury.

JALEN SUGGS

Jalen Suggs will undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove a cartilage fragment in his left knee, sources told Shams.

The team had announced Friday that Suggs would be out indefinitely with the injury.

He’s only played in 35 games this season due to a number of injuries.

AYO DOSUNMU

Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu will undergo surgery on his left shoulder and be out for the rest of the season, the team announced Sunday.

The 25-year-old averaged 12.3 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds (all career highs) in 46 games this season.

He had been dealing with left shoulder instability.
