Kyrie Irving on His First Matchup with Luka Doncic Ahead of Lakers-Mavericks

Anthony Davis won’t be playing, but it will still be very interesting to see Kyrie Irving go up against his former teammate Luka Doncic.

The Mavs will travel to LA to play the Lakers at Crypto.com arena on Tuesday night and Irving spoke about the expectations heading into the game.

“High level basketball game,” Irving told the media on facing Doncic and the Lakers. “A lot of good players on the floor at once. Outside of just the obvious of us being in L.A., being a former team of Luka’s, obviously the narrative’s already written. I don’t know what else I can really add to that. I’m pretty much focused in telling my guys just to focus on the high level game we’ve got to win. I would love to get into the motions after the game with you, but before the game it’s just about having fun and making sure that we lock in.”

Irving continued, “They’re gonna come in and be ready to play against us. Luka’s obviously gonna have a lot of confidence that game. He played well last game, so he’s feeling good, and we’ve just got to be aware of it.”

Meanwhile, it seems Doncic is really finding his groove with the purple and gold. He had his best game to date earlier in the week with a 32-point haul where the Lakers beat the Nuggets for the first time in almost three years.

On his Instagram story today, he posted a picture of LeBron scoring, likely from a lob that Luka threw.

The pair’s signature move is becoming the full-court pass and after their most recent game together, James had a perfect football analogy to describe that particular aspect of their beautiful new partnership.

“I’m a natural-born wide receiver, and he’s a natural-born quarterback, so it fits perfectly,” James said.
