There have been questions around how Jimmy Butler will fit with Draymond Green personality wise, but Butler has started off his tenure in Golden State with Green on the right note.
Green’s on-court antics tend to cause a stir at times. A clip of him yelling at Buddy Hield when he was new did the rounds and Green explained that’s just how it goes.
Following the Warriors’ first game with Jimmy, Butler seems to like the tact Draymond took with him and has appreciated him taking under his wing.
“He’s telling me what he sees and I’m telling him what I see,” Butler said on the court post-game. “Hell, I don’t know too many of the plays right now anyway, so he’s definitely telling me where to go on the floor. And I’m grateful, he’s shown me so much grace in understanding I am new here, even though I’ve been around the league for so long. He’s showing me the way, and I’m very thankful for Draymond.”
The Warriors’ surged to a second half comeback against the Bulls and Draymond called Butler a “great target” for passes, with a great example of this came from an acrobatic layup from Jimmy in the fourth quarter.
“Put the ball in his area, he’s gonna get it,” Green said.
Curry said Butler was “like a receiver” on the lob from Green. “That was ridiculous,” Curry said after the game.
Before their first game together, Draymond was confident their big personalities would jell.
“He win? I win? That’s the fit. Winners win,” Green said. “He’s a winner. Perennial All-Star. Tough as nails. Just f**ing get the job done however it needs to be done.”
Someone on X said that Draymond and Butler are like old pitbulls, they’re old, but they can still kill you.
