Steph Curry Warns Warriors Against Making ‘Desperate Move’

The Warriors have dipped below .500 for the first time this season, but the last thing Steph Curry wants to see is the team make any rash decisions.

Since a 12-3 start, the Warriors have now lost 17 of 24 games and have a worrying 19-20 record.

But, like Draymond Green and Steve Kerr, Curry doesn’t want the team to throw away its future to gain win-now pieces before the trade deadline in February.

“Desperate trades or desperate moves that deplete the future, there is a responsibility on allowing or keeping the franchise in a good space and good spot when it comes to where we leave this thing when we’re done,” Curry said, via ESPN. “Doesn’t mean that you’re not trying to get better. It doesn’t mean that you’re not active in any type of search to, if you have an opportunity where a trade makes sense or even in the summer free agency [move] makes sense. You want to continue to get better.

“Nobody wants to be stale or be in a situation where you’re passing up opportunities. But it doesn’t mean that you’re desperate just flinging assets all around the place just because you want to do something.”

Green shared similar sentiments to Curry just hours before and it seems as though the four-time champions are coming to terms with their decreasing longevity – plus the team being pretty average when they do bow out.

“Mike understands we want to win,” Curry said. “We want to be in that position where we’ve always said that you want to be relevant in the championship type of chase. While we understand we’re getting older and deeper into our careers and allowing some of the young guys to kind of blossom, it doesn’t mean you’re getting desperate.”

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reacted with complete surprise to Curry’s comments.

“I’ve never heard an interview from a star player like this mid-season,” Windy said. “…Bron operates, and has for decades, exactly the opposite. He says ‘Trade the 2031 first round pick, I don’t care about that.'”

The longtime insider also believes Steph would have communicated the same sentiment to the front office and even went as far to say the Warriors may use the trade deadline to save some money and trade down.
